Quiksilver and the Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) came together for the production of The Quiksilver Pro New York, held in Long Beach, New York from September 1-15. The Quiksilver Pro New York was the 6th stop on the ASP 2011 World Tour and the first-ever ASP World Title Race stop on the east coast of the United States. The event offered a $1 million dollar prize purse to competitors, an amount unprecedented in professional surfing.

The event, which was telecast on MSG Networks and the music network Fuse, was planned as a sports, music, art and fashion festival located adjacent to the Surf Competition site was a festival site outfitted with DC motocross freestyle ramps, a DC skate/BMX street course, a 10,000 square foot merchandise deck, VIP bars and cabanas, ROXY and Quiksilver Surf Camps, ROXY Village (brand activiation), sponsor village, and a main stage to hold some of the best musical talent in the biz.

To service the event,  production compounds and structures were developed and placed on the beach and the festival site as well as an extensive broadcast compound adjacent to the boardwalk which separates the beach from the City.  Infrastructure to accommodate and service judges in an elevated, conditioned space facility, athlete lockers, lounge and training facilities were complimented with broadcast tower facilities, VIP hospitality environments and brand activation spaces.  The site build was a 21 day schedule.

Surfline.com, the world?s leading forecaster of wave and surf conditions, conducted an independent long term 15-year wave study for western Long Island, New York, summarizing that September 4-15 is one of the most consistent time periods for sizable surf in the region.
As luck would have it, Hurrcane Irene brought a Category 3 storm to Long Island and made landfall at Long Beach with 70 to 90 mph winds.  Complete removal of the surf site set up, festival site and broadcast compound were required in just 72 hours to clear before Hurricane Irene landed on the barrier island.

Just a day following the storm, the surf site and broadcast compounds were re-installed and the Quiksilver Surf Pro played to massive beach crowds for 8 days and viewed globally on-line.  Design, site layout, municipal relationship management, operational planning and daily event management of the event, covering athlete, sponsorship and site access logistics, security and guest services, hospitality services, cleaning and waste removal were part of the daily activities.  Deconstruction, packing and shipping the systems out of Long Beach to leave the beach and festival site back in their same natural condition before the event wrapped up the successful event.
